Security drivers in Paris

You can trust us to arrange secure travel for your C-suite executives and their entourage anywhere in and around this busy city.

Security vehicles in Paris

The road layout in Paris includes wide boulevards and squares, and plenty of green spaces. But, as with other European capitals, roads can be closed unexpectedly by roadworks (“travaux”), and the traffic can be overcrowded at times.

That’s one reason it’s so important to use a security driver who is familiar with all possible routes.

As always, we’ll use a discrete security vehicle to suit the needs of the passenger and their journey. If the threat risk assessment demands it, we can access armoured vehicles in Paris.

Paris

Overview of Paris

Paris has been known as the ‘City of Light’ since the 19th century, and is a major travel hub with two international airports, plus major rail and road links.

It’s the capital city of France, with a population topping 12 million people. It’s been a major centre of finance, diplomacy and commerce since the 17th century, and has a leading role in the arts, fashion and gastronomy.

There’s a wealth of historical buildings and monuments in Paris. The most famous landmarks include the Eiffel Tower, Montmartre, and Notre Dame Cathedral. The historical district along the River Seine has been an UNESCO World Heritage site since 1991.

The Louvre is the most visited art museum in the world, the Museé d’Orsay and the Museé Rodin are also particular favourites for tourists. Outside the city centre, Versailles is a major draw for visitors, as is Monet’s garden at Giverney.

Security risks in Paris

The overall security of the city is the responsibility of the Prefecture of Police of Paris. This is a subdivision of the Ministry of the Interior and supervises the National Police who patrol the city (nearly 44,000 officers with 6,000 vehicles). It also provides emergency services including the Fire Brigade.

To address a rise in burglary and car theft, 15 Priority Security Zones were set up in 2012. These are located in selected areas of known drug-dealing and rampant black markets, mostly outside the city centre.

Violent crime

France prides itself on being “the most civilised of civilisations”. Reassuringly, violent crime is relatively rare in the Paris city centre.

Non-violent crime

Pickpockets are the most significant problem – they are often children aged under 16 who can’t be prosecuted. They mostly operate on the Metro rail link between Charles de Gaulle airport and the city centre.

Terrorism

There have been a few terrorist attacks in Paris, especially since the mid-1970s. By definition, terrorist attacks are unpredictable, but the city is on high alert and it’s easy to feel safe there.

Riots

Large demonstrations occasionally occur in Paris and other parts of France simultaneously, and these can be confrontational. At these times, Paris deploys a strong Police presence with a special unit for riot control, crowd control and security of public buildings.

Events

Paris notoriously hosted the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Regular events held there include Paris Fashion Week, rugby at the Stade de France, the Paris Marathon, the French Open tennis championship, the Tour de France, the Bastille Day Parade, and many more events and attractions.
